Limiting Oxygen Concentration

Definition:

The limiting oxygen concentration is the maximum oxygen concentration in a mixture of a fuel with air and an inert gas , in which no explosion can occur.

Test method:

The limiting oxygen concentraltion is being investigated with mixtures of fuel, air and an inert gas.

Remark:

The explosion limits are relevant data for new material registrations. These datas combined with the limiting oxygen concentration are needed for the interpretation of the preventive measure "avoidance of combustible atmosphere".
